Welcome to On the Boat!
We’re more than just a fishing bait and apparel company—we’re a story of friendship, shared passions, and the drive to turn a love of fishing into something meaningful. Founded by three Army veterans (two still active duty), our journey began at Ft. Campbell, KY, where we bonded as neighbors, young fathers, and soldiers balancing military life with raising kids. Whether it was gathering around a backyard bonfire with beers in hand or sharing stories about sports, hunting, bourbon, and fishing, we discovered our common love for the outdoors and adventure.
Our company’s roots trace back to fishing trips in Stanton’s trusty jon boat. Starting in 2019, we spent countless hours on Tennessee and Kentucky waters, transforming casual outings into all-day adventures. Josh convinced Stanton and CJ to trade catfishing and bluegill bobber fishing for the thrill of bass fishing, and we quickly became hooked. As we fished from sunup to sundown, our competitive streak emerged, especially when we caught fish near those with expensive boats and fancy gadgets. Our triumphant cheers of “Woooo!” became a signature moment every time we reeled in a nice bass.
The name On the Boat was born during those early days with a chant about how many fish we hauled on to the boat, Stanton's beautiful John boat. It captured the essence of our fishing adventures—the fish we caught, the keepers we cherished, and the memories we made.
From backyard conversations to countless fishing trips, the idea of starting a business took shape. Combining our unique skills—CJ’s outdoor expertise and manufacturing know-how, Stanton’s personable nature and business instincts, and Josh’s competitive edge and passion for bass fishing—we realized we could turn our shared hobby into something bigger.
At On the Boat, we’re committed to more than just fishing. We’ve partnered with small businesses and connected with the veteran community to make a positive impact. So far, we’ve collaborated with four small businesses to develop our product line and proudly sponsored two nonprofit organizations.
OUR STORY
On The Boat was started by one Army Combat Veteran and two Active-Duty Soldiers with a passion for fishing and the occasional ice-cold beer. From Tennessee rivers on a 14-foot boat to experiencing the most amazing offshore fishing trips, we realized the importance fishing can have on families, friends, and veterans alike. On the Boat is about bringing friends and families back to the outdoors.
No matter if you are a seasoned fisherman or a dad taking his kids out on the lake, OTB can help make your adventure more memorable. When you support OTB, you support a veteran owned business that is manufacturing their products in America.
Expanding from Clarksville, TN, to Belleview, FL, has allowed us to explore fishing across the country. Whether it’s offshore or inshore fishing off Florida’s coast or taking friends on bucket-list fishing trips, we’re all about creating unforgettable experiences. Every time someone visits, we cover the costs for an offshore trip and welcome them aboard the Carolina Skiff for an adventure they’ll never forget. We’ve had the pleasure of sharing these experiences with friends from Oklahoma, Texas, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, and Arkansas.
Our mission is simple: to provide high-quality soft plastic baits and fitted fishing gear that help you look great and catch more fish. At On the Boat, we train like we fish—putting in the work to ensure our gear is prepared to deliver the best results. We’re here to make your time on the water as enjoyable as ours has been. Growing up in Minnesota, I spent the majority of my childhood fishing with my father, uncle, aunts and cousins on a picturesque lake called Little Mantrap in Northern Minnesota. It was then that I developed a love for fishing and being on the water.
